About me

I graduated as a speech therapist in 1995 and soon after I started working in special education, where I worked with deaf and multiply-impaired children ages 2.5 to 12. Total Communication was central and I learned the gestures of the Dutch Sign Language.
The following years I worked at the GGD and the work was focused on preventive speech therapy.
Then I worked for 10 years in special education with children and young people with intellectual disabilities. I have a lot of experience with children with different problems and different syndromes, such as; Down syndrome, fragile-x syndrome and autism. I like to work with children who need special help.
I am experienced in the field of Total Communication, or supporting communication, such as NmG (Dutch with Signs), PECS, speech computers and picto systems.
I have taken several courses such as Prompt, PECS, eating and drinking problems in multiply disabled children, Reading Talk, Tan-Soderbergh, OMFT and Reading and spelling problems.

Since August 2015, I have enjoyed working in practice. In addition to working with children, I also focus on adults. I have retrained in the area of speech/language and swallowing problems due to neurological disorders.

In addition to working in practice, I make observations in a Nursing Home on the rehabilitation unit and on the nursing unit.
In December 2022, I completed the Parkinson’s training and have since joined the Parkinson’sNet as a speech therapist. In this capacity, I work extensively with other healthcare providers and participate in various multidisciplinary consultations.

I am also a member of the professional association NVLF and participate in quality circles for speech therapists. I am also registered in the quality register of paramedics.
