Establishment of Silderhuis Speech Therapy

In May 2013, I founded Silderhuis Speech Therapy with the goal of offering speech therapy care and development in the broadest sense. This includes clients as well as speech therapy students and fellow speech therapists. My mission is to provide broad speech therapy care, both individual and group, while encouraging the development of the profession.

Career as a speech therapist

I have been working as a speech therapist since 2002. I started my own practice in Zwolle, where I enjoyed working for six years. After that period I took up new challenges and worked within several large care institutions, focusing on people with intellectual disabilities. Here I treated both children and adults, both individually and in groups.

During this time, I have worked with a variety of professionals, which has enriched my work as a speech therapist, especially with complex requests for help. In addition to speech therapy treatment for clients, guidance from the immediate environment is essential for success.

Specializations and education

Over the years, I have specialized in several fields, including preverbal speech therapy and Sensory Information Processing. In addition, I have gained extensive experience in Total Communication and Supportive Communication. Especially within Supportive Communication, there are numerous possibilities that can have a great impact on both communication and behavior.

Quality and professionalization

As a speech therapist I have a broad education, but I find it important to keep developing myself continuously. Therefore, I regularly attend courses, short training programs and continuing education activities, as a result of which I am registered in the quality register. This helps me keep abreast of the latest developments in my field and continue to improve my skills.

Experience in education

In addition to my work as a speech therapist, since 2002 I have also been active as a teacher, trainer, supervisor and developer for several higher education programs in speech therapy. In this role, I have gained extensive experience in supervising adults, both in groups and individually. This ranged from subject matter supervision to study career guidance.

To strengthen my didactic skills, I completed a course focused on didactic professionalization. Today, I develop and provide post-HBO education for speech therapists, including in the areas of reading and spelling problems, Autism Spectrum Disorders and baby gestures. I provide these courses on behalf of NCOI, Pro-education and Pearson Academy. From Silderhuis Courses, InCompany courses can also be offered.

Audit Experience

In the field of auditing, I am active for HCA as an auditor. This means that I regularly go out to assess and improve the quality of healthcare processes.

Memberships and certifications

I am a member of the professional association NVLF (Dutch Association for Speech Therapy and Phoniatrics) and am listed in the quality register. I am also DTL-certified (Directe Toegankelijkheid Logopedie), which means that you can make an appointment with me without a referral from a doctor or family doctor.
